Delaware County Seeking Junior County Council Members for 2026-27 School Year
Delaware County high school juniors and seniors invited to apply for the third year of immersive civic leadership program
Delaware County, PA — Delaware County Council is accepting applications for the 2026-27 Junior County Council program, with the deadline to apply being Saturday, August 8. This unique initiative offers high school juniors and seniors from across the County the opportunity to explore local government, engage with public officials, and build leadership skills through real-world civic experience.
Students selected for Junior Council will observe the policymaking process, attend bi-monthly Council meetings, take part in community outreach initiatives, and collaborate with County leaders on public service efforts. The program gives students a front row seat to local government in action, helping them develop public speaking, teamwork, and civic engagement skills.
“Through Junior County Council, we are providing an exciting pathway for young leaders to gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and understand the real impact they can have on their communities,” said Delaware County Council member Dr. Monica Taylor. “I love seeing the energy and optimism these students bring, and I am honored to support the next generation of Delco’s public servants.”
Delaware County is looking to fill seven openings on Junior Council for the upcoming school year. Applications are due by Saturday, August 8, with interviews beginning the following week. Eligible students must be enrolled as rising juniors or seniors at a public or private high school in Delaware County. Students can expect the program to run from mid-September through May. Junior Council members are reliable for their own transportation to and from weekly meetings at the Delaware County Government Center (201 West Front Street, Media, PA 19063).
