National Public Health Week 2025 - DCHD Celebration Campaign

DCHD Team

Public Health Starts Here at the Health Department of Delaware County.
Happy National Public Health Week (NPHW) 2025!
National Public Health Week is a time to recognize the contributions that public health plays in our community.

The Delaware County Health Department (DCHD) is made up of five divisions: Administration, Personal Health, Population Health, Environmental Health, and Epidemiology. Each division plays a pivotal role in public health within Delaware County. To celebrate, DCHD will highlight different divisions within the health department this week. Follow us all week long as we highlight how each division of the Delaware County Health Department is serving you!

Personal Health

Maternal Child Health, immunization, STI/HIV, Tuberculosis (TB), and Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) are the 5 teams that make Personal Health. The Personal Health Division plays a crucial role in providing specific services to residents of Delaware County.

The Maternal Child Heath team organizes community events internally and with partner organizations to provide education, resources, and connection to services for community members. For example, community baby showers and maternal health events! They also attend community events to table and provide information about DCHD and our resources and services. The MCH team manages DCHD programs or components of programs to ensure that grant measurables are reached.

Our Immunization Team can take vaccine clinics on the road. By using special equipment, our medical staff can keep vaccines at the correct temperatures. DCHD has held vaccine clinics at various locations across Delaware County — you may have seen us at the 69th Street Terminal, local firehouses, schools, and food pantries, just to name a few. Our Immunization Health Consultant can use the same equipment to assist Vaccines For Children (VFC) clinics by transporting vaccines to ensure they have enough doses for their patients.

DCHD is welcoming to all. If English is not your first language, no problem. Many of our staff members speak different languages, and we utilize translation services so we can communicate with our patients effectively. Shout out to the immunization team for administering 3,147 vaccines to residents in 2024!

The STI/HIV team is uncovering hidden truths about sexually transmitted infections (STIs) that could save your health and the health of others. Reaching out to patients on a timely basis is very important. DCHD conducts field visits to provide patients with information about testing, share their results, discuss treatment options, and conduct interviews if patients cannot be reached by phone, text messages, or mailed letters. The team monitors the STI rate in Delaware County and helps protect communities against sexually transmitted infections by interviewing patients and making sure infected patients and partners are treated.

When treating tuberculosis (TB) cases, the TB Team builds relationships with patients and families. They connect people to local resources and provide all necessary treatments, education, and testing at no cost.

The Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) Team informs the community and individuals about exposures to mitigate the spread. They educate and provide services/resources for pregnant women with Hepatitis B, including their providers. They also educate families whose children have been affected by lead poisoning and provide resources for inspection and remediation.
