This book is presented through consideration of the Federal Citizen Information Center in Washington, DC. Information and resources are divided into four categories titled:
Be suspicious of anyone who just shows up and offers to do the job.
Make sure the contractor obtains all necessary permits before starting the job.
The law requires contractors to be licensed with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's office. Consumers must be on guard there is slow reaction to enforcement.
Ask for copies of the contractor's general liability and worker's compensation insurance.
Get everything in writing and make sure the contract includes the notice of cancellation clause.
Don't ever pay in advance. It is recommended to pay 1/3 deposit, 1/3 when half the job is complete and then the balance after completion and satisfaction.
