Delaware County’s 49th annual Summer Festival in Rose Tree Park concluded its 2024 season on August 11 with a sizzling performance by the popular party band Del’s Groove, playing chart-topping hits from Frank Sinatra to Taylor Swift before a lively crowd of over 1,300 people.
“What a great way to end the season!” said Delaware County Parks and Recreation Interim Director Anne Stauffer. “After a rainy start to our final week of the festival, we finished with fantastic crowds enjoying excellent entertainment under beautiful skies.”
The outdoor concert series in Rose Tree Park’s scenic amphitheater ran for nine weeks, featuring 45 scheduled shows for the public to enjoy admission-free.
This year's lineup featured an impressive range of genres, with bands and singers spanning everything from Big Band to Broadway and Brazilian Bossa Nova to Puerto Rican Bomba y Plena and an eclectic mix of rock and roll.
The festival also included four children's concerts, several community orchestras, and a variety of extraordinary tribute groups. Some of these groups made their Rose Tree debut this year, including Mysterious Ways (U2), Savoy Truffle (George Harrison), Wooden Ships (Crosby, Stills & Nash), and the ‘70s Midnight Rock Show, which delivered stellar performances packed with Billboard chart-toppers from music's biggest legends.
We also enjoyed the Summer Festival debut of two local bands, Stella Ruze and Jamison Celtic Rock, while two returning acts, Class of '84 (‘80s tribute) and Gold Dust Woman (Stevie Nicks), drew crowds beyond the venue’s capacity, with onsite parking filling up before showtime!
Perennial festival favorites also proved popular once again, attracting music fans of all ages to see groups such as The Fabulous Greaseband, Sensational Soul Cruisers, Jimmy & the Parrots, and the talented young performers of the Upper Darby Summer Stage Shooting Stars.
“This year's summer concert series entertained tens of thousands of park visitors,” said Stauffer. “We are grateful for the talent of our performers and, for the most part, the weather's cooperation this summer. Despite the heat, our visitors were able to enjoy cool breezes and a diverse program of music.”
The long-time music festival, which entertained tens of thousands of attendees, was again sponsored by Delaware County Council, produced by the Parks & Recreation Department, with additional support from private patrons, whose generous donations helped ensure a strong line-up of performers all summer long.
