George W. Hill Correctional Facility Recognized for Commitment to Excellence in Training

Delaware County Council congratulates and commends the Training Department at the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. The team recently completed the Pennsylvania County Basic Training Program Audit and received excellent news from the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections Training Academy. Their program has been recertified until June 18, 2027, highlighting their commitment to excellence in training.

The audit is a formal review process ensuring that county jail training programs meet Pennsylvania's American Correctional Association (ACA) state standards and guidelines. This comprehensive review checks that the training for correctional officers is thorough, effective, and compliant with state laws and regulations.

Adherence to ACA Standards means that the training programs follow nationally recognized best practices. This ensures that correctional officers are well-prepared to handle their responsibilities, maintaining high standards of safety, security, and humane treatment.

The audit involves an in-depth review of the training curriculum, methods, and materials, ensuring that all necessary topics are covered, and instructors are qualified. It verifies that officers are trained in key areas such as security procedures, inmate management, emergency response, and legal issues.

“I’m proud of the recognition of our training department and the positive remarks from the Department of Corrections Bureau of Training Staff Development,” said George W. Hill Correctional Facility Warden Laura Williams. “I am very hopeful that we will be able to invest, with capital improvement dollars, in a training facility that the County is proud of and is representative of the quality of our Basic Training Academy.”

Congratulations to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility Training Department for their outstanding achievement!
