The PA DEP, in coordination with the Delaware County Planning Department, conducted a Potential Brownfields Inventory in Darby Borough.
The U. S Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) a Small Technical Assistance Brownfield Grant on behalf of Darby Borough. The purpose of the $20,000 grant was to provide education for the community, an inventory and ranking of likely brownfield properties, and prepare for next steps for redevelopment opportunities. With the report in hand, the community will be able to apply for more funds to address the brownfields in Darby Borough.
The Darby Brownfields Advisory Committee guided the project. It is comprised of elected officials, municipal staff, Darby Borough residents, the Darby Creek Valley Association, Delaware County Community College, the Delaware County Redevelopment Authority, the Office of the Delaware County District Attorney, Delaware County Office of Housing and Community Development, the Delaware County Planning Department, and the PA DEP’s Office of Environmental Justice. The report and map are linked below.
