Seeking joint solutions to transportation and economic development challenges along a key segment of the Chester Pike from Sharon Hill to Ridley Park Boroughs.

U.S. Route 13, Chester Pike, is principal arterial roadway through southeastern Delaware County connecting to the city of Philadelphia to the north and the Delaware state line to the south. This lengthy, suburban corridor has an aging transportation network and infrastructure but has the potential to create better connections between land use and transportation, improving the function, character and appearance of the area, enhancing economic development, and improving the overall quality of life.

The Chester Pike Corridor Improvement Partners (CPCIP), is a group of stakeholders recently formed to address transportation, land use and economic development challenges along a central segment of the Chester Pike from Sharon Hill to Ridley Park Boroughs. The CPCIP is a 501c3 nonprofit, currently managed collaboratively by the Boroughs of Sharon Hill, Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park, and Ridley Park Boroughs, whose mission is the enhancement and revitalization of the Corridor through the five Boroughs.

The Delaware County Planning Department is working with the CPCIPto prepare a Corridor Master Plan to identify issues and conflicts along the five-Borough portion of Chester Pike and to identify and build a case for corridor-wide transportation improvements, and community and economic development. The plan will be broadly collaborative seeing input from municipal officials and staff, residents, businesses and other community stakeholders to identify a vision and goals for the corridor and provide actionable recommendations that will identify needed transportation and land use improvement projects. The completed plan will act as a tool to help the CPCIP obtain funding for such activities.

The Delaware County Planning Department is pleased to be working on this collaborative effort with The Chester Pike Corridor Improvement Partners (CPCIP). More information on the Chester Pike Corridor Improvement Partners (CPCIP) can be found at https://chesterpike.org/.
