The investigation of all unnatural deaths in Delaware County (not purely from natural causes) and natural deaths where there is no treating doctor or which occur suddenly outside a medical institution.

The determination of cause of death and manner of death in all such cases and issuance of a death certificate.

Assist police in investigation of all homicides, suspicious deaths and vehicular accidents.

Performance of autopsies where indicated by Medical Examiner or his deputy (board certified forensic pathologist) in order to clarify exact cause, mechanisms and timing of death.

The providing of reports pertaining to such deaths to all interested parties including next-of-kin, police, district attorney, private attorneys, medical institutions, insurance companies.

Attendance and expert witness testimony by Medical Examiner or deputy at any legal proceedings stemming from these cases.
