Hours: Monday-Friday  12:00pm-8:00pm
Site Location: George W. Hill Correctional Facility (Thornton, PA)


Summary

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating George W Hill Volunteer Services Department. The incumbent will assist in training, scheduling volunteers to participle in the programs /services they are assigned. The Volunteer Coordinator must have strong organization, problem-solving and communication (both oral and written) skills. The applicant must work closely with stakeholders from multicultural and divers background.


Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only)

Manage the Volunteer Service application process including but not limited the Background Clearance, training and recertification

Coordinate with the Chaplain and other Department Heads to prepare and maintain volunteer schedule of activity.

Assist with the updating Facility Master Schedule and Program Master Schedule

Coordinate volunteer training and retraining with GWH Training Department

Maintain and update volunteer information database/files in a secure manner

Responsible for escorting volunteers to their assignment location

Responsible for providing volunteers with materials needed for the service

Ensure that the rooms are open and set up before arrival of volunteers

Coordinate with Security regarding incarcerated person movement in a timely manner

Keep volunteers informed of current information regarding GWH and their access to the Facility

Addressing and resolving volunteer questions

Other duties as directed


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

Bachelor’s degree or five (5) years of administrative work experience in human services, business, or criminal justice

Two (2) years of prior Volunteer Services experience is required

Outstanding interpersonal skills and administrative skills

Exceptional oral and written communication skills

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office including but not limited to Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Excellent problem-solving skills

Excellent ability to accomplish tasks without supervision

Prior experience in working on a correctional or secure facility setting is preferred

Must be able to successfully pass background check

Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements: Must have a valid Act 33 and Act 34 Clearance


Work Environment

Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
