The Telecommunications Technician is responsibility for installing, maintaining, and servicing a variety of telephone equipment, voice and data communication circuits, security cameras, panic systems, door access, and cabling.
Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables.
Installs telecommunications equipment, multiplexors, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; and coordinating with contractors.
Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; and identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables and recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages, testing network back-up procedures, and updating documentation.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and reading technical publications.
Establishes communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment.
Perform other duties, tasks and special projects, as required.
High school degree or GED equivalent.
One to three years of related IT/telecommunications experience.
General knowledge of telephone systems and a solid foundation in electronics.
Associate degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience.
Minimum of two years of telecommunications experience.
Time management skills.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach or work with arms above shoulders; bend, twist or rotate at the waist; kneel, stoop, crouch or squat; crawl; climb stairs; climb or work on ladders; push up to 150 pounds; lift up to 50 pounds for a height of up to 80 inches; carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of up to 1000 feet; pull communication wiring exceeding 25 pounds while working aloft during pulling operations; work on ladders at heights up to 20 feet; drive a vehicle during working hours; and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will need to work with an uncommon level of noise; will need to walk, climb stairs, and drive a vehicle to and from different locations. On rare occasions, the employee will need to work with machinery and shop tools.
Residence Requirement: The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees. Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within three months of starting employment.
