Summary

This position oversees and maintains the sanitation of the George W. Hill Correctional Facility. The incumbent will work within the guidelines of established security roles, regulations, and operational procedures and supervises all functions and movement within the institution of incarcerated persons performing the necessary work and oversight of the sanitation needs of all buildings within the facility.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Adheres to all policies and procedures of the county and specific facility regulations including posted special orders and instructions.

Conduct periodic inventory of equipment (per established schedule) and supplies (at least once per week).

Conduct inspections of the equipment (at least once per workday) to ascertain that it is in proper operational condition

Provide continued training to the incarcerated persons assigned to sanitation in safety awareness and monitor to assure the training is appropriately applied.

Oversees and monitors the activities of the incarcerated persons

Oversight daily cleaning and sanitizing of Main Jail, Administration, Programs, Training and DUI buildings.

Maintain strict control of hazardous tools and materials, as well as locks, keys, and other items, which would be used for illicit purposes.

Provide appropriate supervision and constructive counseling for sanitation workers, not allowing personal bias to influence decisions.

Be able to demonstrate initiative, sound judgement, a positive attitude, and have the ability to make decisions on the spot within current policy and procedural guidelines

Cleaning and sanitizing of any other areas assigned by the Fire Safety Manager.

Disassembling and assembling of equipment.

Operate a floor buffer and scrubber.

Fill out required sanitation pre-operational reports.

Transporting and disposing of garbage in a safe, effective and environmentally friendly manner

Recycling as dictated by facility policy

Keeps records as required.

Performs other related duties as assigned by the Fire Safety Manager.


Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent.

General awareness of the appropriate American Correctional Association standards, Title 37 standards, security procedures, sanitation equipment and methods, basic first aid and CPR, security, safety, and emergency procedures, and the facility’s mission, goals, and objectives.

Must have completed an approved correctional officer training course.

Must have good vision

Must be able to hear conversations within noisy groups.

Capable of working under stressful conditions, in high and low temperatures, and around dust, odors, and noise.

Working Conditions

Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
