Starting Pay: $10.86/hour
Scheduled Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm; 35 hours per week


The Receptionist answers phone calls and receives visitors to the Office of the Public Defender. The Receptionist is often the first point of contact with the office for our clients. The Office of the Public Defender is seeking a personable, patient, and resourceful person to fulfill this critically important position.

Essential Duties

Under the direction of the Office Manager the Receptionist:

Welcomes all visitors to the Office of the Public Defender, including clients and their family members, attorneys

Gathers necessary information from visitors to facilitate meetings with the appropriate Public Defender staff

Answers phone calls and messages, ascertaining the nature of the call, determines where to direct calls, and provides information, within authorized limits

Maintains and files data relative to calls and visits to the Office of the Public Defender

Provides information to callers and visitors about relevant social service or government agencies, as necessary

Assists with other office administrative duties and projects as assigned


High school graduate or equivalent

Prior experience in a high-volume customer service position

Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

Residence Requirement: The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees. Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within six months of starting employment.
