The Central Purchasing Department is the County’s Procurement Office for the acquisition of supplies and services relative to all County Departments and businesses. All purchases are made with the best interests of the County Government and Delaware County Taxpayers in mind. The department is staffed with knowledgeable personnel whose primary purpose is to provide services in an efficient, effective, and economical fashion. All procurement activities are examined using the Code of the County of Delaware as a rule of compliance as well as applicable state and federal guidelines.
Under the direction of the Director of Purchasing, the Purchasing Agent will:
Work with all departments to develop, negotiate, evaluate and administer bids, quotes and contracts with vendors and suppliers
Purchase goods and services according to the County’s established policies and procedures
Coordinate with managers to maintain inventory levels
Work with vendors to negotiate volume and other available discounts
Ensure that purchasing documents are complete and accurate and include appropriate and reasonable terms and conditions
Maintain vendor records
Performs all other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field highly preferred
At least 2 years of purchasing experience
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to maintain confidential and meticulous records
Excellent negotiation skills
SAP experience a plus
