Job Opening: Maintenance Technician
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
FLSA: Non-Exempt / Bargaining
Facility: George W. Hill
Pay Rate: $24 hourly
Hours: 1400-2200 work shift, and split weekends
(Friday/Saturday off or Sunday/Monday off)


Summary

Responsible for performing the necessary skilled work in construction and repair and having experience and skills in one or more areas of plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, mechanical, sewer, water systems, and other related skills.


Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only):

Surveys assigned jobs and ensures that sufficient and proper materials and tools are on hand to complete each day’s work.

Reads and interprets blueprints and schematics in respective field of expertise.

May perform carpentry work in repairing or replacing doors, windows, walls, flooring, roofing, and any other work pertaining to wood structures.

May perform plumbing, heating, and air conditioning work in repairing furnaces, duct work, air conditioners, piping, instrument controls, wash basins, toilet facilities, or any other work pertaining to plumbing, heating or air conditioning.

May perform electrical work in repairing and replacing fluorescent fixtures, control switches, disconnecting wiring, and any other work pertaining to electrical facilities.

May perform minor construction such as building storage bins, stockroom shelves, counters, workbenches, etc. using hand tools and power tools.

May perform mechanical work involving repair and maintenance of facility machinery, generators, and motors.

May perform motor vehicle service, maintenance, repairs, and may operate the facility garage to include control and supervision of incarcerated persons with outside clearance.

Keeps records as required. Performs other related duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

A high school diploma or equivalent.

A minimum of two years in the respective fields of construction, electricity, HVAC, refrigeration, mechanical, and carpentry work.

Must be flexible and cooperative to the total needs of the facility.

Must be able to work with the incarcerated person population.

Must be able to communicate with outside agencies and companies pertaining to work.

Working Environment

Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
