Position Description

The Immunization Health Program Specialist (Registered Nurse Preferred) is the Senior Health Program Representative for the Immunization and Vaccines for Children Program in the Maternal Child Health division. This position will schedule and conduct Vaccines For Children (VFC) and Immunization Quality Improvement Program (IQIP) visits to actively enrolled VFC providers. Provide education on topics on related immunization topics to providers in their assigned area. Conduct pre-visit review of VFC provider information consisting of Immunization Information System data, data from the CDC's Provider Education Assessment and Reporting System (PEAR) and Immunization Quality Improvement Program (IQIP) Online Tool visit history. Process vaccine transfers on viable vaccine at VFC and State Vaccine Provider locations, using appropriate storage and handling procedures. Provide training on storage and handling of vaccine to providers as warranted. Provide education on topics of VFC requirements, vaccine storage and handling, continuous temperature monitoring systems (utilization and ordering), IIS access, reports and inventory and ordering, IQIP quality improvement plans, IQIP process and immunization resources. Perform outreach for recruitment of child and adolescent providers for enrollment in the VFC and IQIP Program in the applicable area.


Duties of Position

Work closely with other members of the Immunization Program to implement immunization activities.

Conduct annual visits to VFC-enrolled immunization providers to conduct an on-site assessment of vaccine delivery services, vaccine administration, participation with the PA-SIIS, implementation of strategies to increase immunization coverage levels, and ongoing immunization education needs.

Manage and evaluate assessment data collected during provider visits; conduct immunization coverage rate assessments using the PA SIIS and work closely with immunization staff to ensure data quality and to track immunization coverage levels.

Assist providers in development and implementation of quality improvement plans through IQIP.

Conduct in-office educational trainings and assistance on vaccine management and administration, standards for pediatric, adolescent, and adult immunization practices, the PA SIIS, and strategies to increase immunization coverage levels.

Participate in additional immunization education activities as needed, including trainings for medical assistants, office managers, physicians, nurses, and internal staff.

Assist in the development of provider education materials.

Provide feedback on new developments for the IIS as it relates to the VFC/VFAAR and IQIP programs.

Attend regularly scheduled meetings to collaborate and plan with members of the Immunization Program.

Collaborate with members of other divisions of PDPH to address immunization related initiatives.

Support immunization activities throughout DCHD including, but not limited to administering vaccine or Ig in the case of a vaccine preventable disease outbreak or public health emergencies as required.

Participate in other community immunization activities as needed.

Other duties as necessary.


Qualifications

Experience implementing education and/or training programs.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office, demonstrated ability to learn new computer applications, comfort using databases, and proficiency utilizing on-line data management platforms.

Theories, principles, and practices of nursing and their application in community health and clinic service settings.

Laws and regulations governing nursing practices.

Immunology of Surveillance, prevention, and control of vaccine preventable diseases.

Vaccine administration techniques.

The ACIP immunization schedule.

Must be able to lift up to 30lbs.

Must be eligible to work legally in the United States.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

RN/BSN (preferred, not required)

Clinical experience is beneficial.

Immunization experience a plus
