Scheduled Hours: 8:30am – 4:30pm; 35 hours per week; Ability to work extended hours when necessary

Essential Duties

Under the direction and oversight of the First Deputy Controller, the Internal Auditor will:

Audit the Fines & Forfeitures account which includes

Interfacing with external auditor engaged by the District Attorney and with the Financial Administrator for the District Attorney’s Office

Confirming the external auditor’s classification of revenue and expenditures for the Fines & Forfeiture report

Meeting with a representative from the District Attorney’s Office to count the cars on the impound lot

Attend and represent the Controller’s Office at exit interviews with State and external auditors

Pre-Audit Petty Cash reimbursement requests and perform audits of Petty Cash of various departments in the County

Plan and perform internal audits, including writing audit findings and recommendations.

Attend meetings with departments and the County Controller/Deputy County Controller as necessary

Help prepare and update risk assessments of the various operational units comprising the County of Delaware

Assist in preparing disclosures annually for inclusion in the county CAFR

Assist in the preparation of an annual audit report for inclusion on the Controller's webpage along with all other audit reports and management letters prepared during the year

Assist in preparing and updating risk assessments of the various operational units comprising the County of Delaware

Assist Internal Audit Supervisor with the preparation of the annual audit schedule each year

Assist external auditors as needed

Maintain and verify clothing expenses for contract employees (CID & Park Police)

Review employee travel expense reports for accuracy and compliance with County policy prior to processing for payment

Assist other departments in the Controller’s Office as needed

Perform all other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned


Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Internal audit experience

Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

SAP experience

CPA, CIA and/or CFE certification a plus

High attention to detail

Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

Ability to interface effectively with all levels of County management

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Residence Requirement: The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees. Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within six months of starting employment.
