Summary

The Labor Relations generalist position reports directly to the Human Resources Manager and works closely with the Warden and other Executive Administration staff. The position assists with all matters related to labor relations, to include, but not limited to: grievances, contract negotiations, investigatory matters, complaints, and meet and discuss meetings. The position also serves in the capacity as a human resources generalist and will assist with orientation, onboarding, recruitment, hiring, and retention.


Position Eligibility Requirements

3-5 years labor management and employee relations experience in both union and non-union environments

Undergrad Degree in a related field required


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Manage the day-to-day Labor Relations activities.

Employee grievance processing

Employee investigation

Apply policies, and rules and issue corrective action up to and including termination of employment Administering Labor contracts

Provide Labor Relations training, as well as providing advice and counsel on policies, procedures and contract interpretation

Build and maintain effective working relationships with management and employees to provide advice and counsel to both employee-related and organizational matters

Serve as an employee advocate and as a coach to employees and leaders

Lead all key HR processes including staffing, leadership development, compensation, talent development, performance management, and employee relations

Lead identification, selection, and retention of world-class talent

Monitor performance management programs and providing support and guidance to managers and employees on performance issues and assessment tools


Minimum Requirements

Experience working collaboratively in a matrix environment

Excellent problem-solving skills

Working knowledge of employment laws, rules and regulations

Very good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; must be able to make effective presentations, to negotiate, to listen, and to influence

Delivers to all stakeholders in a professional and approachable style

Self-aware and highly sensitive to key elements affecting culture and employee morale

High energy, passion with a strong work ethic and collaborative style

Customer orientation and problem solver

Working Conditions

Standard jail facility and office environment. Incumbent may be involved in sitting and walking at will, walking/standing and/or sitting for long periods, lifting/ carrying heavy objects, crouching/kneeling, bending at the waist, close and far vision, reaching, handling/ grasping/fingering objects, hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent is frequently exposed to the hazards associated with jail operations, such as potentially violent individuals and communicable disease. No prolonged extreme physical demands are associated with normal duties or assignments.
