Salary: $46,995.00 annual
Scheduled Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. 37.5 hours/week; air-conditioned office; out-of-office meetings and site visits; occasional overtime in connection with assignments.
Under the umbrella of the Sustainability Office, the GIS Specialist works to support the Mapping and Data Services’ GIS system and is responsible for helping to keep geospatial data current, performing data analysis and creating maps and graphics.
Works extensively with planners on in-house projects requiring research and collection of data to produce maps
Serves as lead on comprehensive/zoning plan mapping from start to finish, supports work teams that participate in project planning
Participates in the development and maintenance of the organization’s mapping applications within ESRI’s ArcGIS online and portal platforms to make cartographic, GIS and regional information and resources available to the public
Helps with mapping requests from the public and other county departments
Creates and maintains specific data layers at the direction of the GIS Manager
Accompanies GIS and planning staff in the field for data collection
Attends GIS regional networking meetings and conferences with the GIS Senior Specialist and Manager and participates in relevant GIS training, online and in the classroom
Stays up to date on the Census and regional entities demographic programs, as well as analyzes and summarizes demographic, socio-economic and other data to support planning efforts
Education: Bachelor’s degree in GIS or in planning/geography with a GIS option and two years’ experience. Must have experience with ArcGIS suite of products and excellent computer skills. A thorough understanding of GIS concepts such as map projections and coordinate systems as well as demonstrated knowledge and understanding of GIS, relational databases and GIS concepts.
Experience: Experience configuring ESRI application templates or building web applications in ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Server is a plus. Beginners knowledge of ESRI collection tools in the field. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as strong cartographic skills. Usage of the Adobe Suite for creative graphics is a plus.
