Shift: Monday-Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm, some nights and weekends required
Delaware County is seeking a team-oriented, creative Communications Specialist to assist the County’s Communications Director with effective internal and external messages for the Health Department. The Communications Specialist will help develop written and visual communications pertaining to Delaware County health initiatives and the newly created Health Department, launching January 2022.
Under the direction and oversight of the Communications Director and in partnership and collaboration with departmental leaders, the Communication Specialist is responsible for:
Developing effective internal communications regarding County related announcements, initiatives and programs
Developing and/or supporting the creation of external communications including press releases, media alerts, speeches, press conferences, letters, emails, resolutions, etc.
Developing creative visual content for use on the County’s website, social media and for display
Coordinating events and announcements for County elected officials and department directors
Writing, creating and managing content for the website and social media
Responding to inquiries and comments on social media platforms
Routinely attending meetings with internal groups and leaders
Providing advice and recommendations to internal stakeholders
Other duties as assigned
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related major
A minimum of three years of professional experience working in the field of public relations, media relations or a related communications field
Experience in health care or public health a plus
Exemplary written communication skills and proven ability to simplify complex topics. Must be able to provide writing samples
Photography and videography skills for use on the County’s website, social media, distribution to the press and flyer a plus
Graphic Design expertise to create newsletters, flyers and online content a plus
Experience creating and managing social media accounts
Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
Knowledge of Word, Excel, and photo editing software such as Photoshop
Residence Requirement: The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees. Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within six months of starting employment.
