Summary

Delaware County is seeking a team oriented and creative Communications professional to work with the County’s Communications Director to effectively communicate messages to the public and to County employees. Candidates must possess a combination of training, experience, and interpersonal skills that would provide the required knowledge and abilities to be successful in this position.


Essential Duties

The Communications Coordinator will help develop and/or proof written and visual communications for announcements, news, and updates pertaining to the County of Delaware.

External and internal communications from the County of Delaware, which encompasses communications from Delaware County Council, the Executive Director, the Department of Emergency Services, the Delaware County Health Department, and Department Directors from over 40 County departments.

Collaborate with County departments to conceptualize and execute visual communications that align with organizational objectives and target audience needs.

Assists in the creation of content for digital signage screens located in the Delaware County Courthouse.

Assists in drafting resolutions to recognize outstanding members of the community and/or notable events.

Develop and implement social media content.

Produce videos for various platforms, such as social media, the County website, internal media, and community presentations, highlighting county projects, public service announcements, and event coverage.

Oversees “Use of Facilities” requests from community partners and members of the public to use County owned property for events.

Assists in administrative needs of the Public Relations Office.

Other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned by the Communications Director.


Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with an emphasis in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or a related major.

A minimum of 1-3 years of professional experience working in the field of public relations, media relations, or a related communications field.

Ability to effectively communicate to the public and County employees information and updates regarding County related announcements, initiatives and programs.

Ability to write and proofread press releases, media alerts, speeches, press conferences, letters, emails, resolutions, and content for the County’s website, newsletter, and social media.

Photography and videography skills for use on the County’s website, social media, distribution to the press and flyers.

Graphic design experience to create newsletters, flyers, and online digital content.

Knowledge and creative use of social media.

Knowledge of Word, Excel, and photo editing software such as Photoshop, Canva, etc.


Computer Skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Applications (Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).


Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend at the waist, and talk or hear. Occasionally, the employee will climb stairs, twist or rotate at the waist while working; push, lift or carry items.
