Position Description

This is advanced professional work investigating reports of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and/or abandonment, developing service plans, and managing specialized services for older adults.

An employee in this job evaluates the medical, social, and psychological needs of older adults, investigates allegations of elder abuse, and offers services to detect, reduce, correct, or eliminate the risks associated with all types of abuse identified during investigations. Work involves acting to ensure the well-being of older adults, as well as their living situation, financial circumstances, personal safety, and quality of life. Work includes conducting investigations of alleged abuse, exploitation, or neglect; interpreting and applying protective services legislation, regulations, policies, and operating procedures; implementing actions to protect vulnerable clients; recommending court interventions when appropriate, such as guardianships and involuntary commitments; and documenting all actions and services provided. Work also includes coordinating plans with other agencies to refer clients for additional services and assisting older adults in utilizing available services to meet their needs. Work is performed independently in accordance with statutory requirements and timeframes; and is reviewed by an administrative supervisor through conferences, reports, and assessment of outcomes.


Minimum Experience and Training Requirements

One year as an Aging Care Manager 2 or Aging Program Assessor; or

One and one-half years of professional human services, law enforcement, or nursing experience; and a bachelor's degree in social sciences, behavioral sciences, human services, or a closely related field, or

An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes six months of professional human services, law enforcement, or nursing experience.

Legal Requirements: This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services ACT

Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including, but not limited to, PA State Police, Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI clearance.
