Hours: 8:30AM-4:30PM, Monday through Friday. On site work required. Ability to work extended hours, when needed. May need to be flexible to adjust hours as needed.
Entry level accounting position in the Office of the Controller responsible for updating and maintaining financial records for the County of Delaware.
Under direct supervision of Accounting Manager and general supervision of First Deputy Controller, duties include:
Assist with the preparation of unclaimed property report for escheating to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the State of New Jersey in accordance with the established guidelines
Help maintain a list of all outstanding checks for Accounts Payable and Payroll
Assist with the maintenance of unclaimed property check list on the Controller’s website
Assist with the preparation of the County’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report, including closing of various funds
Assist with the accounting of County assets in Fixed Asset module in accordance with the County's administrative code and Controller’s office procedure
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual account reconciliations
Various duties and special projects as assigned
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Accounting or an Associate's degree and more than two years of experience in an accounting or financial information support role or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Mastery of intermediate skill level in Word, Excel and internet search software.
Strong organization skills. Must be able to prioritize and multitask with limited supervision.
Excellent analytical skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to work well with others as part of a collaborative team, and to work independently.
Strong commitment to customer service, with a proactive and positive attitude toward assisting others.
Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of governmental accounting
Knowledge of SAP. Learning to use SAP will be a requirement as part of position.
Residency Requirement: The County of Delaware has a residency requirement for employees. Anyone applying for this job must reside in Delaware County or be willing to move to the County within six months of starting employment.
Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Note that eligibility for some benefits (e.g., health insurance) begins on the first day of the month following the date of hire.
All full-time employees must participate in the County pension plan as members immediately upon hire. Employees are required to contribute 7% of their salary into the plan and may voluntarily elect to contribute up to 10% more (maximum of 17%). The County also contributes to the County Pension Fund, which contribution is determined by an outside actuary, subject to budgeting by County Council. An employee’s contributions and years of service will be used to calculate retirement benefits, or contributions can be returned to the employee with interest, in accordance with the pension plan, if the employee leaves the County before retirement.
Every year, County employees are entitled to 10 days of vacation, increasing to:
15 days after 5 years of service and a day
20 days after 14 years of service and a day
25 days after 19 years of service and a day
Additional leave is provided for County holidays- currently 15 days per year, sick time, bereavement, military leave, jury duty, and other circumstances outlined in the employee handbook.
Note: During an employee’s first year of employment, time off is pro-rated based on date of hire.
