Job Opening: 911 Systems Technician

Monitor overall health of mission critical 911 systems, including hardware, software, and network infrastructure, reporting any anomalies to senior staff.
Troubleshoot technical issues with all mission critical 911 systems.
Following established procedures and escalating complex problems to senior engineers.
Assist with system maintenance tasks, including backups, updates, and disaster recovery drills.
Proactively monitor system performance metrics and identify potential issues for further investigation.
Stay informed about relevant regulations governing 911 systems (e.g., NENA standards).
Assist senior staff with configuring and maintaining systems to meet compliance requirements.
Participate in audits and inspections of the 911 system, providing technical knowledge and support.
Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps according to established protocols.
Maintain clear and up-to-date system documentation for future reference.
Work effectively with internal teams (le. Operations) and external vendors when necessary to resolve technical issues.
Communicate system updates, outages, and maintenance schedules to relevant personnel including training officers, supervisors and dispatchers.
Clearly document and report technical issues to facilitate troubleshooting and resolution by senior staff.
Specific Systems Support / Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) System:
Assist with maintaining and updating Intergraph/Hexagon CAD software, following established procedures.
Provide technical support to dispatchers regarding the use of the CAD system.
Assist with data entry and quality control procedures to ensure accurate information within the CAD system.
Manage Internal (Delaware County Staff) and External (Police, Fire, EMS) login and CAD personnel records.
911 Phone System:
Assist with maintaining and upgrading the Motorola VESTA 911 phone infrastructure, performing tasks as instructed by senior engineers.
Assist with testing and troubleshooting 911 and administrative phone lines under the guidance of senior staff
Support Delaware County 911 Center Dispatchers and Call takers on functionality of new features as they are implemented.
Public Safety Radio System:
Monitor radio system performance and report any technical issues to senior engineers.
Support Delaware County 911 Center Dispatchers and Calltakers on functionality of new features as they are implemented.
Assist with tasks related to receiver and transmitter maintenance, repair, and test procedures.
Participate in periodic radio system coverage testing.
Manage all aspects of Zetron Advanced Communication Console System including hardware and software associated with the system.
Ensure subscriber file identifier database is current while working with first responders to generate new MDC identifiers and valid aliases for use on the current Delaware County Radio System.
Communication Tower Sites:
Conduct tower site visits on a regular basis.
Exercise generators.
Verify generator fuel levels and initiate fuel delivery if needed.
Ensure HVAC units are functioning properly and perform basic maintenance including filter cleaning.
Verify tower lighting is functioning as per FAA regulations for aviation safety beacons.
Ensure shelter and compounds are secure and locks function correctly.
Monitor annunciators on all equipment and initiate repair when necessary.
Perform other duties, tasks and special projects as required.
Associate’s degree in information technology, Electronics, Telecommunications, or a related field or any equivalent combination of on-the-job training and experience which affords the applicant the opportunity to have gained the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully carry out the duties of this position.
Minimum of 2 years of experience with 911 communications systems, radio technology, or similar technical support roles.
Experience with communications equipment and systems from EF Johnson, Zetron, Kenwood, Motorola, or similar public safety communication providers.
Familiarity with 9-1-1 emergency communication protocols and regulations.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency situations effectively.
Capable of reading construction drawings and basic design documents.
Familiarity with Delaware County geography includes radio tower sites and shelter locations.
Comfortable working on a ladder or elevation greater than 10 feet.
Familiarity with general safety standards in an RF and Electrical environment.
Capable of working outside of normal hours as necessary when working on mission critical or service impacting issues.
Preferred training in EF Johnson Atlas radio technology, EF Johnson Armada Programming Suite for Viking Subscribers, Zetron ACOM Console System and Subscriber Management, Hexagon/Intergraph I/CAD Computer Aided Dispatch Suite, Kenwood Kairos, Kenwood Programming Suite.
Must maintain a valid Pennsylvania Class "C" operator's license.
Must complete PA State Police Criminal background check.
Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed. Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. May require lifting equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Travel to remote sites for system installations or repairs is required. Employees in this class must be able to communicate, sit, stand, walk, reach and twist frequently. Employees must be able to pull, push, kneel and squat occasionally.
