The County Solicitor, Jonathan Lichtenstein, together with the attorneys and staff of the Solicitor’s Office, provides legal advice and assistance to all County Offices and Departments except the Controller and the District Attorney. Specifically, the Solicitor's duties include:

Prepare and revise ordinances and resolutions.

Review matters to be considered by Council.

Provide legal advice upon matters or question referred by Council, its subcommittees or delegates, the Executive Director or a department director.

Coordinate the litigate or defense of legal actions and claims brought by or against the County.

Approve for legality all contracts, agreements or other legal documents executed by authorized County Officials.

Attend all Council meetings.
