The Department of Motor Vehicle Management manages and maintains a fleet of approximately 320 vehicles plus other equipment and trailers that are used to provide county services.
To be cost-effective, the Motor Vehicle Management staff performs all Pennsylvania inspections and emissions testing as well as all routine maintenance and repairs.
This department is constantly looking for ways to reduce fleet size and fuel consumption. The County has six Hybrid vehicles and continues to research affordability of electric/alternative fuel vehicles.
MVM also manages and maintains two fueling sites equipped with federally mandated leak detection equipment. These sites are monitored through a computerized system that helps maintain pertinent information that is used in preventive maintenance/vehicle replacement programs.
In 2012, 24 vehicles were replaced. Some vehicles were purchased through the federal Government Services Administration auction to secure a competitive purchase price. Through efficiencies, the county fleet was reduced by 16 vehicles in 2012.
County Surplus Vehicle Online Auction
Delaware County now utilizes an online auction to sell vehicles that are out of service. This helps the County save money and get the best price for the vehicle being sold. These vehicles are sold through the following auction website: www.municibid.com. This site features government vehicles from many jurisdictions. For Delaware County vehicles, the seller name is listed as Delco.
People interested in bidding on vehicles for sale can visit the website and register to bid. Delaware County vehicles are usually auctioned for a period of two weeks with the highest bidder being notified once the auction has ended. Vehicles may be inspected during the hours specified in each listing.
