Delaware County Solid Waste Authority

Home / Departments / County Clerk / List of Boards and Commissions / Delaware County Solid Waste Authority

The Solid Waste Authority is responsible for the processing of all Delaware County trash. All forty-nine municipalities are contracted to bring the Authority all of the trash collected within their towns to one of our transfer stations in either Chester Twp. or in Marple. From there we load the trash onto transfer trailers where it is then taken to Covanta Energy, a resource recovery facility, in Chester City where it is burned and turned into electricity. A small percentage of County trash is taken to Waste Management's Fairless Hills Landfill. The Authority also accepts and processes commercial waste from within the County in the same fashion.

The Authority also owns and operates a landfill in Berks County, Pa. where we accept ash from Covanta Energy and trash from other sources close to the site. The Authority also has a Recycling Coordinator who is responsible for the dissemination of information to the municipalities and who aids them in the process of obtaining grant money for recycling programs. We also host four Household Hazardous Waste Events yearly which are located throughout the County for the safe and efficient disposal of particular items at no cost to private citizens.
