Their primary responsibility is to act as an advocate for older persons by ensuring that the public is informed, whether by the Area Agency on Aging (AAA) or by the Advisory Council, about the needs of the aging population in Delaware County. It is the responsibility of the Advisory Council to advise and assist the AAA Director in the development of policies, priorities and procedures for resource allocation, program development, and service delivery.
The Advisory Council advises the AAA regarding its mandated responsibilities through review and comment on community policies, programs, and actions affecting older persons by:
Reviewing the agency’s annual area plan summary, budget and other documents pertaining to the substance and scope of the area plan and contract.
Conferring with the AAA and staff regarding the development or revision of the area plan and in cooperation with the AAA, plan, publicize and hold public hearings on the area plan.
Certifying the Advisory Council’s participation in the area plan process and its approval or disapproval of the area plan prior to their submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Aging.
Ensuring that the AAA’s appeal procedures for applicants for services are available and when necessary utilized within the County.
